Allagrande Mapei Racing (ITA)
Allagrande Mapei Racing is a long-term project with which skipper Beccaria is working towards participating in the Vendée Globe in 2028. His first competition will be the fully crewed The Ocean Race Europe, starting this summer on 10 August in Kiel, Germany.
‘We are proud to support this new, innovative and bold project by Ambrogio Beccaria,’ said Veronica Squinzi, CEO of Mapei. "Mapei immediately believed in Ambrogio and recognised in him the sporting values that have always been part of the company's DNA: Passion, tenacity and the courage to face new challenges. A tough sporting and technological adventure that, we are sure, will also take our brand a long way."
The IMOCA boat he will be sailing is the same one that Thomas Ruyant sailed in the last Vendée Globe, and Ruyant will take part in The Ocean Race Europe as Beccaria's co-skipper. His team, TR Racing, will provide technical support to Allagrande Mapei Racing throughout the year.

Ambrogio Beccaria
At 33, with a degree in naval engineering, with a degree in naval engineering, Ambrogio Beccaria didn't grow up by the sea, but in Milan, right in the heart of Italy. He started out sailing double-handed and with a crew, but everything changed in 2013 when he used his savings to buy a battered Mini 6.50, a small boat wrecked in the Atlantic. A bold move... which marked the start of his solo adventure.
He quickly made a name for himself: between 2018 and 2019, victory after victory, Ambrogio became the first Italian to win the Mini Transat - the emblematic solo transatlantic race that inspires a whole generation of sailors. This breakthrough propelled him into the limelight and earned him the title of ‘Sailor of the Year’ in Italy two years running.
In 2022, he launched Alla Grande - Pirelli, an all-Italian project with a brand new Class40 designed and built in Italy. In his very first major race with this boat, he finished 2nd in the Route du Rhum, followed by two major victories: the Transat Jacques Vabre and the Transat CIC (single-handed).
Now based in Lorient, Ambrogio speaks fluent French and Italian, and continues to make headway in the IMOCA world. Both at sea and ashore, he brings a contagious energy and a fresh state of mind. With The Ocean Race Europe on the horizon, Ambrogio arrives with ambition, enthusiasm and that inimitable Italian flair.
He's nicknamed the king of transatlantic races! It has to be said that the sailor from Dunkirk, born on 24 May 1981 in Saint-Pol-sur-Mer, has won many of them: Mini-Transat 2009, Route du Rhum in Class 40 in 2010 and in IMOCA in 2022, Transat Jacques Vabre with Morgan Lagravière in 2021 and 2023, Transat AG2R La Mondiale with Adrien Hardy in 2018. He recently finished the Vendée Globe in seventh place, after finishing his first solo round the world race in sixth place in 2020 and retiring off New Zealand in 2016.
One-time record holder of the 24-hour solo monohull world record with 539.94 miles sailed in 2024, Thomas is also an entrepreneur at the head of the TR Racing ocean racing team, which fielded the two VULNERABLE yachts in the last Vendée Globe.
In The Ocean Race Europe, he will be handing over the reins of his boat to his new skipper Ambrogio Beccaria, and in the best possible way, racing at the highest level. Thomas Ruyant and his team are currently building a new IMOCA, which will be launched in 2026, with the aim of racing around the world in The Ocean Race in 2027.

In 2014, he joined the Safran Sailing Team and became skipper of the groundbreaking IMOCA Safran II, the first foiling monohull. His first Vendée Globe campaign in 2016 ended early due to technical problems, but he went on to win major offshore double-handed races — the Transat Jacques Vabre in both 2021 and 2023 — alongside Thomas Ruyant.
