Volvo and the Ocean Race
A goal that unites
Volvo and The Ocean Race have always enjoyed a close partnership in their commitment to protecting the world's oceans. It is therefore only logical that the Swedish premium car brand is also represented in Kiel. It will be bringing with it comprehensive information on the company's environmental commitment and – as a German premiere – the new fully electric Volvo ES90 sedan.

A healthy ocean that benefits everyone – that is the motivation behind the organizers and participants of the Ocean Race, and it is also what drives Volvo to support this globally unique race for more than 25 years.
Like no other event, the sailing race embodies the dream of unity between humans and nature: moving in harmony with nature, but also overcoming the challenges and obstacles that life in and with nature presents.
It is this spirit that has always driven Volvo to strive to improve the safety of vehicle occupants and all road users and to achieve progress in the areas of sustainability and environmental compatibility. Innovations such as the seat belt, the City Safety automatic emergency braking system, and – in the latest models – the Volvo Safe Space are just as much a result of this spirit as Volvo's pioneering role in the field of powertrain electrification.
This reaffirmed the joint mission to dedicate themselves to the health of the seas and oceans and the associated consequences for people and the planet.
Premier Partner
The Ocean Race
Just last August, the quarter-century partnership between the Swedish premium car manufacturer and The Ocean Race, which Volvo has long supported as title sponsor, was extended and further deepened. This reaffirmed the joint mission to dedicate themselves to the health of the seas and oceans and the associated consequences for people and the planet. Among other things, the partners are focusing on restoring and preserving natural ecosystems and biodiversity.
The funds for this are provided by the Volvo For Life Fund, which was established in April 2024. The aim of this initiative by Volvo Cars is to positively impact the lives of one million people worldwide. In collaboration with NGOs and by involving communities and Volvo employees, the Volvo For Life Fund builds on the company's tradition of care and safety and aims to strengthen the resilience of people and nature and create hope for people, communities, and ecosystems.

Together with The Nature Conservancy, Volvo is working, for example, to restore mangroves in the Sundarbans in India, one of the largest mangrove forests in the world.
Support is provided for projects that focus on empowering people, restoring and preserving the environment, and providing assistance in the event of natural disasters. Particular emphasis is placed on improving and securing local livelihoods in coastal areas, promoting biodiversity, and improving water quality.
Together with The Nature Conservancy, Volvo is working, for example, to restore mangroves in the Sundarbans in India, one of the largest mangrove forests in the world. In addition to improving the coastal ecosystem and securing local livelihoods, the support also contributes to the conservation of ten endangered species, including the Bengal tiger.

Near the Volvo plant in Taizhou, China, the company is working with the SEE Foundation to protect and restore local coastal wetlands and offer sustainable ecological solutions that enable nature, people, and the economy to coexist in harmony. And near Volvo's home city of Gothenburg, Volvo is supporting the restoration of seagrass on the seabed of Hakefjord on Sweden's west coast.
Volvo's commitment to sustainability is shaping the brand's model and technology development more than ever before. The Swedish car manufacturer committed to powertrain electrification early on and continues to push ahead with this strategy. With the Volvo EX30, Volvo EX90, Volvo EX40, and Volvo EC40, as well as the Volvo EM90 available in China, Volvo already offers five fully electric models. Also in the starting blocks is the all-electric premium sedan Volvo ES90, which combines its advanced, locally emission-free, and long-range drive with a sophisticated and elegant design, high flexibility, and a spacious interior.
The new Volvo ES90 is already available to order, but is not yet on the roads. It will be unveiled in Germany for the first time at the Ocean Race Europe stopover in Ocean Live Park in Kiel. Visitors to the Volvo Studio on the Kiellinie, directly opposite the Sandhafen, will be able to take a close look at the stylish car.
A product expert from the brand will also be presenting the vehicle's highlights in a 20-minute product presentation on Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9, at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to test drive the fully electric Volvo models Volvo EX90, Volvo EX40, and Volvo EX30, as well as the two plug-in hybrids Volvo XC60 and Volvo XC90.
