ARTIVIST! Janina Rossiter about the For Planet Ocean campaign
A global art initiative to protect our oceans
I am delighted to be part of the For Planet Ocean campaign again in 2025 - and have been since the project was founded. As a member of the hosting team from the very beginning, I am very passionate about this global art initiative dedicated to protecting our oceans.
As an artist and artivist, I use my creativity to impart knowledge, promote empathy and inspire marine conservation - especially among children and in the education sector.
This year, I decided to write a short poem about a marine animal for each of the five themes of the challenge. The aim is to visualise the beauty and vulnerability of the marine world in a poetic and creative way.

My first contribution is dedicated to the hermit crab as part of the theme "Stories from the coast". With my poem, I want to show how important it is to leave these animals in their natural habitat and how crucial it is to protect our coasts. Whether due to plastic pollution, climate change or mass tourism - coastal regions are under increasing pressure, and even the smallest creatures like the hermit crab are affected.

The For Planet Ocean campaign was launched to raise global awareness of ocean conservation through art, community and creativity. The campaign is supported by Ocean Culture Life, a non-profit organisation that uses storytelling, education and the networking of Ocean Guardians worldwide to promote ocean conservation.
Five creative themes will take centre stage in June 2025:
